THE MODERN DRUMBEAT

The Modern Drumbeat

Dr Belavadi Prabhakar

Dum Dum Dum

The King has stepped down

The Politician takes the stage

The sword is put to rest

As the Missile comes of age

Dum Dum Dum

The heavy Cannon retires

As the Drone begins its flight

Trading a pinch of chilli

For a face full of pepper’s bite

Dum Dum Dum

Casting off the heavy crown

For a tailor-made disguise

Replacing the honest frown

With a thousand digital lies

Dum Dum Dum

The Dove has lost its wings

To the flood of stinging Spam

The village square is silent

While we post it on the 'Gram

Dum Dum Dum

Truth is stripped and naked

While the Fake wears silk and gold

The wise man stays a hermit

While the fool grows loud and bold

Dum Dum Dum

Like a man who seeks the itch

Then lets the red ants in

Stumbling in the dark

With a grin upon his chin

Dum Dum Dum

The Ghost of Wisdom wanders

The Bully finds his phone

In this brave new world of ours

We’ve never been so alone!
